Mindnumbing Facts
Date: January 30, 2004
Duration: Noon ~ 2:00 pm
Weather: Sunny, very cold. -18° F

This park is located Just south of the Mpls/St paul airport.

This was the coldest day of the year (so far). As I was driving past the entrance, my timing was perfect to catch the planes coming in for a landing. Unfortunately, there are no parking signs all over the place. Once I reached the park office, I got into a conversation with the ranger to see if they would bend the rules for me, since it was so cold and there was no one around. Apparently the no parking rules are more from the FAA and their paranoia about terrorists parking so close to the landing strip. However, there are no problems with me hiking back up to the spot to get my image.

Bundling up for my trek, I made it back up to the entrance and got my shots. I've included a few versions below.

Shoot info: 1 roll of B&W film, Tmax 100. Manual Hasselblad w/ 50 mm lens.

Curiously, the cold caused the plastic sheath to loosen and separate from the ends of my cable release, basically rendering it useless. Fortunately, it was sunny enough to trip the shutter manually.

I like how this park is so close to the cities. As a result, I wanted to
incorporate the massive concrerte pylons into some of my images.

At right, my trusty steed, Prixy.
