Mindnumbing Facts
Date: January 24, 2004
Duration: 3:15 pm~ 4:30 pm
Weather: Sunny, cold. 5° F

This park is located 13 miles northeast of Two Harbors on MN Highway 61.

The sun was starting to wane for my third park of the day. This is a very popular park with lots of human activity. The falls were frozen over, as a result, lots of footprints on and around the falls.

Shoot info: 1 roll of B&W film, Tmax 100. Manual Hasselblad w/ 50 mm lens.

Here is a shot of the upper falls. The frozen falls in the foreground
may have looked better with sunlight falling directly on them, but
with all the footprints and tracks, I'm OK with the detail in the shadows.

Here is the primary reason I don't walk on the frozen falls. I can't believe the surface can be stable with the volume of water running underneath. Anyway, I like the contrast between the lights and darks this image created.

I found this area with the icicles and a nice, dark crevice behind it.
I like the separation of the icicles and the shadow.

Here is an area that I photographed last summer. The icicles are a nice touch for my winter version.

I stepped back a little to show more detail.
I think I like the previous image better.
